In this adventure students will use a variety of hand building skills  to bring their story to life using both high and low relief features.

I work with students to process our local clay into workable material. We then make and fire work using that clay.

Students will create an imaginary clay creature bobblehead that could dwell within a real environment. The creature should be designed so that it could exist within this habitat. Students will research selected environment, including climate and species. Students will apply traditional hand building techniques to create their final project.

In this imaginative and tactile lesson, students will combine their love of mixed media and ceramics to create whimsical character sculptures using air-dry clay and paintbrushes. Inspired by the expressive forms of folk art, students will mold faces and features directly onto the handle of a paintbrush—transforming the brush into original art.

This project introduces students to Greek pottery and examines how contemporary artists continue to explore these concepts. Students will learn the pinch pot and coil techniques. They will create a life drawing of themselves in a pose that reflects their personality, which they will then incorporate into their vessel using the sgraffito technique.

Students create a clay rattle with clay beads. They choose an object for their rattle to resemble, something that is meaningful and worth celebrating. The finished rattle is then painted with acrylic paint.

The Coil Pot Experimentation Challenge is designed to provide students with a dynamic and engaging experience in ceramic art, fostering creativity, collaboration, and technical skill development. This challenge aligns with the principles of experiential learning, allowing students to explore the versatile medium of clay.
