Win a Skutt KMT-1022

We’ll be giving away a Skutt KMT-1022 ceramic kiln to one lucky winner at NCECA. All you have to do is:

  • Stop by our booth and sign up.
  • Be present at our booth Friday, March 22 at 1PM when we will randomly draw one name to decide the winner.

Skutt Instagram Contest

Additionally, we’ll be giving away a Skutt apron and beanie to five random people on Instagram. To participate:

  • Visit our booth and take a photo or video of a Skutt product and post it to your Instagram, tag us @skuttkilns, and use the hashtag #SkuttNCECA24 (we won’t be able to find your entry otherwise). The more posts you make, the greater odds you have of winning, so post as often as you like!

Herrick Smith – Throwing Large Diameter Work

This year Herrick H. Smith will join us again to demonstrate throwing large diameter work showcasing the legendary torque of the Skutt wheel line.

Over the course of the three days he will make several platters and bowls at or above 50 pounds on two foot wide bats! As the diameter of the work increases, the increased leverage from throwing and the weight of the clay strains most motors but Skutt wheels are equal to the challenge. The work Smith makes will highlight the smooth, reliable operation of the Skutt motors at low speeds and the rock-solid construction of the wheel assembly supporting wide, heavy work.

Student Throwing Contest

We will be hosting a friendly student competition at the Skutt booth. All participants will receive a Skutt beanie and three winners will be chosen daily to receive cash prizes. Each participant will be given five pounds of clay to throw on a Skutt wheel into any form they wish. Contestants have 30 minutes to work on a piece and clean their wheel.

Pieces will be judged by Steven Hill at 2:30PM on all three days of the conference. On Wednesday and Thursday, Steven will demonstrate in the booth after he judges around 3PM. Prizes will be awarded in the Skutt booth as soon as the judging is complete each day. On Friday, the winners of all three days will be judged again and the winner will take home a Skutt Legend wheel. As a bonus, Martha Grover will do a one hour demo in the booth at 3PM after final judging.

Two participants will throw every hour on the half hour throughout the entire show. Students can pre-register for a specific time slot or stop by the booth to see if there is a slot available. The only way to guarantee a spot is to pre-register. If participants are unable to make it to the booth during their time slot, please let us know so we can make that spot available for another student. A student ID is required and will be verified, so please have it available.
