Explore one of the easy lessons of functional designs with this heart shaped trinket dish!

A big learning objective of this project is patience. When working with clay one should be calm but focused and this is the perfect item to practice these values on.

Evaluate how the tools may be used and if the students are tentatively aware of air bubbles and quality of their work

Final evaluation can be used at the end of the lesson to see if they were able to complete making a functional piece of work

Discuss about glaze colour and surface composition may be used to have meaningful group conversation

Select all the needed tools and materials for the project
Instructions
Provide instructions and tips for a successful project, show how to roll a slab
Hands on learning
Make sure to give tips as the students are learning how to blend the clay together after attaching edges to the desired shapes of their trinket dishes
Finishing Details
Add any finishing details (sgraffito, surface designs) and make sure edges are smooth - using a sponge!

Take some time to reflect on what the students have made, taking a positive approach to each item

Cleanup surfaces and work stations
Final discussion
Use this time to discuss of anything that they may want to change or consider for their next projects!
