2020 Student Competition
This was normally a throwing contest held at the Skutt booth at the NCECA Conference. Since the event was cancelled we decided we would hold a virtual contest via Instagram and have the students film themselves.
Each of the 3 days of the contest a group is selected to go head to head in two categories. The first is a random theme that was printed on their clay. They had no time to prepare. They had to open the box, read their topic and start making it right away. They only had 3o minutes to create their project.
The second was a project of their choice to be made with the remaining clay. The projects are judged at the end of the evening by Steven Hill. Cash prizes are given to first 2nd and 3rd place winners in each category for that days winners. The 1st place winners of each category are then judged again after the final day. The winner of the Themed project will receive $500 and the winner of the personal preference wins the Skutt/Steven Hill Signature Wheel worth over $2000.
